One-day festival on in Skills Award programme - 04/13/07 |
The Stern
John Skills Programme will host a one-day football festival at the Ato
Boldon Stadium next Friday. The
festival will feature the programme’s 20 regional primary school winners who
will be tested on their ability to convert their skills learnt into a match
setting. From October to February, a total of 1,210 children from 102 primary schools took part in the programme which hosted its national finals at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Febrary 2. Among the talents to emerge were Brendon Creed of Newton Boys RC, who juggled the ball 335 times with his left foot and an astonishing 3,164 times with both feet, Justin Goolcharan of VOS Government Primary School, who juggled the ball 338 times with his right foot and Jessi Glynn of Arima Boys RC, who juggled the ball 34 times with his head. In the girls’ category, Jonelle Warrick of Dinsley Trincity won five of the 13 drill sessions including the goal keeper shoot out, the circuit and three juggling categories. John's programme has been running since his days at Birmingham City and the former Columbus Crew remains fully behind the initiative which is supported locally by his colleagues and coaches.
